Dr. Sunstein- The Sunny Smile Specialist
Dr. Robert A. Sunstein is committed to practicing quality orthodontic treatment and provide optimal care. His knowledge of the latest techniques and dedication to dentistry represent the very best in orthodontic service. Dr. Sunstein received his Bachelor of Science degree at San Diego State University. He then obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry.
He also earned three postdoctoral certificates in Aesthetic Dentistry, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, and Orthodontics. Dr. Sunstein received his Certificate of Orthodontics at Columbia University, School of Dental and Oral Surgery, in New York. During this process, he taught pre-clinical orthodontics for two years. His research background allows him to evaluate new concepts and advances for your benefit.
Dr. Sunstein’s family lives in La Jolla, California, so he is pleased to practice orthodontics here. He is an avid skier, golfer, tennis player and physical trainer. He has served as a dental coordinator for the Special Olympics and as a ski instructor for the physically challenged.
Dr. Sunstein is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, San Diego County Dental Society and the California Dental Association, and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Julie- Office Manager / Registered Dental Assist
Julie was born and raised in San Diego. She has been in the Orthodontic dental field for over 25 years. Julie was Dr. Sunstein’s first employee and has been working with him since he started his practice in La Jolla. Julie loves the fact that she is cross trained working both in the front and back office. Julie takes pride in whatever she does and loves meeting new people. Seeing the great work that Dr. Sunstein provides and the “New” patient smiles is very rewarding to her. Julie loves the great family environment that she has with her employees. Julie is married to her husband Ernest and has 5 beautiful daughters Julissa, Teresa, Kacie, Ariana, and Alyssa. Julie enjoys spending her free time with all of them and her family.
Janette- Insurance Biller / Receptionist
Janette was also born and raised in San Diego and has worked in the dental field since 1996. She started in the beautiful city of La Jolla with Dr. Sunstein in 2003. Janette enjoys working with her wonderful Orthodontist and great staff. Janette loves to see all those beautiful smiles. She is a wife to a great man and mother of two beautiful girls. One who attends La Jolla High and the other at Torrey Pines Elementary. She enjoys watching her daughter cheer for La Jolla High Vikings and good quality family time. Janette also loves to watch charger games at her parents house with the family and is very blessed to have the family and job she has!
Juan- Registered Dental Assistant
Juan was born in Mexicali, B.C. Mexico. Juan lived there until 1989 when he started middle school in Calexico, Ca. Juan moved to to San Diego in 1997. He started working in dentistry until 1999 and met and started working with Dr. Sunstein in 2001. He has worked with most of the staff since then. Very family oriented, love sports!, “Go Bears!”, (Chicago, NFL). Juan loves his work and is very happy to know that he helps make beautiful smiles, with great patient care for all ages.
Hugo- Registered Dental Assistant
Hugo was born in San Diego and the youngest of four. Hugo has been married for seven years and has two very outgoing boys. Hugo has been working in Orthodontic for over ten years. Eight of those years here with Dr. Sunstein. Hugo loves working with the staff and doctor, best office ever. Hugo likes spending his spare time playing flag football, soccer with his fellow co-workers Juan and Marcos. He also likes to cook and take his kids on bike rides to the playground.
Marcos- Orthodontic Dental Assistant
Marcos is native San Diegan, born and raised. He has been working in Orthodontics for over eight years and has been working with Dr. Sunstein since 2003. Marcos has been blessed to have a great work environment and to have a great team to work with. The best part of Marcos job is that he gets to make people very happy and give great results. On his spare time Marcos likes to play soccer and flag football with his fellow co-workers. Marcos also likes to spend time with his family, nephews and nieces and he likes to ride motorcycles and go offroading.
Lorena- Orthodontic Dental Assistant
Lorena is a mother of three and in May 2011 will be a grandmother for the first time! She has been working in the dental field for more than ten years, eight of those years working for Dr. Sunstein. Lorena loves working for the best Orthodontist in San Diego. She loves her job because she loves that “we” as a team can change peoples lives. Lorena’s best moment is when the patients finally get their braces off and she see’s the glow and happiness in their face.
Sonia- Sterilizer Technician
Sonia was born in Mexicali. She was raised in Oceanside, Ca. She joined the Dr. Sunstein team in 2008. She has enjoyed working with such wonderful people. She really loves the funfilled family environment here at the office. Sonia is a mother of four wonderful children and a grandmother of six little ones. Sonia loves spending time with her grandchildren and always has a great smile.
